This is the sixth installment in our Days of Wine and Music series. As might be expected based on last week’s entry, we visit a winery of some renown, located on the beautiful island of Santorini, of course.
Naturally, commercial websites are designed to be informative. They feature product descriptions, prices, shipping information, etc. For some, that type of information is sufficient, but for us, a little bit more is desirable. So, we turn our attention to the page/section with headings like “About Us,” “Who We Are,” “Mission Statement,” “Our Vision,” or something synonymous. Hatzidakis Winery’s page is titled “The beginning…Our Philosophy…Our Vision.” There, the visitor encounters useful information, such as the year of its establishment, 1997, and the fact that Hatzidakis is the “only certified organic grower on the island and applies the principle of organic farming to ALL of its vineyards.” More importantly, one learns that when the patriarch, Haridimos Hatzidakis, passed away, his eldest daughter took the helm and, along with other members of her family, continued to run their enterprise with great passion. The daughter’s name is Stella Hatzidaki, and we will learn more about her next week.

A link to their website appears below. Readers can explore Hatzidakis Winery’s many offerings, but if they are in the market for a circa 2055 treat, they might want to consider Vinsanto 16, not to be confused with the Italian Vin Santo. This is a blend of Assyrtiko (80%) and Aidani (20%), and the year cited above is no exaggeration: it is capable of aging for more than three decades!
