We came across a large number of interesting beverages at this year’s FOODEX. Here is another one.
The chrysanthemum is a very important flower in Japan: it is the Imperial family’s crest, makes its appearance in works of art, is featured as a motif on some kimono, is employed as a natural insecticide, and functions primarily as a decoration on plates of sashimi. As for the last-mentioned usage, the answer is “yes”: it can be eaten. Try it. It’s both soapy and peppery.

We have never tasted a chrysanthemum brew until now. This ale from Aichi Prefecture has, as might be expected, floral notes, as well as hoppy ones. The fragrance is very appealing: it is certainly not something one encounters every day. On the palate, it is pleasantly sweet, with moderate hop notes. The ABV is 4%. It is a naturally light beer, which we believe is perfect for warm weather.
Five Vision Brewery is located in Toyohashi, Aichi Prefecture.
