Some Like It Sour: Sour Saison

Sour Saison

We all know the story of the fox who failed: unable to reach what initially appeared to him to be delicious grapes, he reasoned that they were in fact not desirable after all because they were most likely sour. That fox would be dismayed to learn that there are those who really, really, really like sourness. For those who do, this beer is definitely for them. The first thing that hits the nose is the refreshing aroma of high-quality hops. The second thing one experiences is a full-frontal assault of sourness. This 5.0 abv brew certainly lives up to its name—Sour Saison. No one is going to argue with that.

Another beer was easier to drink. The Slam Dong was a blackberry dark saison.

The brewery – clean and relatively spacious with a nice little bar space up front.

The entrance

Izumi Brewery has inherited the “DNA” of a now defunct brewery from Portland, Oregon called the Commons Brewery. The 3A Farmhouse Ale is apparently based on the Urban Farmhouse Ale, the flagship beer from Commons Brewery. Although Sour Saison was not my cup of tea, I am looking forward to trying more beers from this brewery.
