Blowing My Horn


Boasting is definitely frowned upon in the circles in which we travel, but there are occasions when a blast, preferably from a Baroque era valveless trumpet, is not only appropriate but, shall we say, mandatory. Well, as Frank Zappa put it, “The Meek Shall Inherit Nothing.” So, here we go.


As our regular readers should know, drinkingjapan.org is run by a dedicated duo, and one of us here, William F. O’Connor, Ed.D., was awarded the WSET Diploma (DipWSET), the highest level of wine expertise under the Wine & Spirit Education Trust’s credentialing system. The diploma was awarded at a commencement ceremony held at Guildhall, London, on April 30, 2025. This was followed by a reception, at which a number of fine wines—what else?—were served.
